Cultural Armor Hub
Every racial cultural armor line in one place: set names, racial forges, tempers, trivials, and who can wear them — with honest era caveats.
How Cultural Armor Works Start here
Cultural armor is smithing's and tailoring's racial endgame: every race (and humans by city) has its own armor line, forged in a racial forge with a racial temper brewed to trivial 135. The pattern is the same everywhere: smithy hammer + metal components + chainmail/scale pattern + leather piece + the race's temper. Each line comes in plain, enchanted, and imbued varieties — the imbued sets are deity-locked and carry stats.
Deity trap: imbued combines lock to a specific deity via the imbued gem — e.g. only Imbued Ivory (Tribunal) works for Imbued Northman Ring armor; Imbued Jade will not substitute. Check the gem and the deity before you commit expensive components. The gem→deity pairings are listed per race below.
On "unverified": per-piece trivials and exact component patterns are only listed where a reliable source (EQL wiki race pages, Allakhazam, eqtraders, period patch notes) confirms them. Anything else is marked unverified rather than guessed.
Racial Tempers — Brewing Trivial 135 Verified
Every racial temper brews at trivial 135 (confirmed via Allakhazam's brewing list). Recipes:
| Race | Temper | Recipe |
|---|---|---|
| Barbarian | Frost Temper | Brandy + Ice Goblin Blood + 2× Essence of Winter |
| Dark Elf | Shadow Temper | Neriak Nectar + Elf Blood + 2× Essence of Shadows |
| Dwarf | Earthen Temper | Dwarven Ale + Lava Rock + 2× Drop of Mercury |
| High Elf | Moonlight Temper | Morning Dew + Vial of Swirling Mists + 2× Essence of Moonlight |
| Human (Freeport) | Sea Temper | 2× Mugs of Sea Foam + Saltwater Seaweed + Fish Wine |
| Human (Qeynos) | Royal Temper | Rain Water + Griffiene's Blood + Drop of Sunshine |
| Iksar | Scale Temper | Sarnak Blood + Froglok Blood + Iksar Blood |
| Ogre | Blood Temper | Ogre Swill + Elf Blood + Human Blood + Dwarf Blood |
| Wood Elf | — | No brewed temper — smithing uses Morning Dew; tailoring uses Oak Bark Tannin (brewing trivial 102: Oak Bark + Flask of Water) |
Halfling, Erudite, Gnome, and Troll tempers are live-era or unverified for the classic sets — see the per-race notes.
Barbarian — Northman Ring & Weapons Fully verified
- Sets: Northman Ring armor + Northman weapons (long dagger, claymore, throwing axe, battle axe, mace, kite shield); Imbued Northman Ring + Imbued Northman weapons. There is no "Enchanted" Northman set.
- Forge: Northman Forge. Temper: Frost Temper (brewing trivial 135).
- Combine pattern: Smithy Hammer + N× Medium Quality Metal Rings + Large Chainmail pattern + matching Large leather piece + Frost Temper.
- Armor trivials: most pieces 120 (mask, gorget ≤180, bracer, boots, helm, mantle, sleeves, gauntlets, cloak); belt 124; mail 162 (130?); leggings 155 (120?). Imbued armor 139–155.
- Weapon trivials: long dagger 114 / imbued 97; claymore 118 / imbued 142; throwing axe 94 (no imbued version); battle axe 110 / imbued ≤122 (150?); mace 104 / imbued 115; kite shield 114 / imbued 115.
- Imbued gem rule: armor takes Imbued Ivory only, Tribunal only — Imbued Jade will not make Imbued Northman Ring armor. Weapons take Imbued Ivory or Imbued Jade (Tribunal / Rallos Zek). Imbued armor gains +1 STR, +2 WIS, +2 cold resist.
- Wear: chain classes; all non-small/non-large races including iksar — no dwarves, gnomes, halflings, trolls, or ogres.

Full detail in the tailoring guide's cultural section.
Halfling — Vale Leather Armor (Tailored) Partially verified
- Set: Vale Leather Armor — tailored, with smithing components (one period list calls it "Vale Studded Leather").
- Forge: Vale Forge (for the smithing side).
- Imbued trivial: ~122 per a single period source — provisional.
- Temper, components, wear: unverified — the classic-era halfling temper (Celestial Temper is flagged "out of era?" in the sources) and the EQL race page could not be confirmed this pass.
Erudite — Steelsilk Plate (Tailored) Uncertain on EQL
- Set: erudite-only plate armor tailored from Terrorantula silk.
- Kit: Worn Erudite Sewing Kit.
- Status: temper, components, and trivials are unverified, and EQL inclusion is uncertain — period sources describe it as very high trivial (above 250), and EQL-era availability is unconfirmed. See the tailoring guide.
Gnome — Clockwork Armor (Tinkering, Not Smithing) Status verified
Gnome cultural smithing is not in-game on the classic timeline — but tinkering is, and gnomes got clockwork armor upgrades through tinkering instead. The specific name "Clockwork Watchman" seen in older notes is unverified; only the general clockwork-armor-via-tinkering route is sourced. See the tinkering guide.
Troll — Not In-Game on the Timeline Status verified
Troll cultural smithing is not yet in-game on the classic timeline (the EQL wiki's cultural index says the same of the p1999 timeline). The live-era troll temper is Bile Temper — live-era only, out of scope here.
Kerran — No Cultural Line Exists Verified absent
The Kerran — the cat-people of Kerra Isle, off the coast of Odus in the Stonebrunt Mountains region — joined EQL as a playable race with the July 28, 2026 launch-day patch. Unlocking them means completing the Aid the Kerrans of Kerra Isle task (accept it before working the island's quests — credit isn't retroactive; see the EQL Races guide). Their racials are Sneak and Safe Fall; playable classes: Bard, Berserker, Beastlord, Druid, Rogue, Shaman, Warrior.
But there is no Kerran cultural armor: the EQL wiki's Cultural Tradeskills page lists no Kerran entry and no Kerran cultural recipe page exists — so there are no Kerran recipes, trivials, racial forge, or racial tempers to learn. The old game never had them either: Kerran weren't playable in original EverQuest (they became playable on live with the 2006 Buried Sea expansion), so there's no classic line to port. If EQL adds one, expect the usual cultural shape (racial forge + racial temper + racial components), and this hub will grow a proper recipe table. Until the wiki publishes it, treat any "Kerran cultural" recipe you hear about as unconfirmed.
Era History & Sources Reference
When cultural armor appeared (live EQ)
- Kunark era, late 2000 — the original cultural sets, following the tradeskill revamp patch of 9/19/2000.
- October 2000 — imbued gem spells first noted; imbued variants follow.
- Feb 21, 2001 (Velious) — patch fixing the Enchanted Teir`Dal Adamantite Bracers recipe, implying the recipe predates it.
- Apr 17, 2001 — patch removing the gem component from the Enchant-metal spells.
- Refined and additional sets continued through mid-Velious into Luclin.

Per-piece trivials and exact component patterns for Dark Elf, Dwarf, High Elf, Human, Iksar, Ogre, Halfling, and Erudite are marked unverified above because the EQL race pages couldn't be fetched during research — they'll be filled in on a later pass. Nothing here is guessed.
