Trade Guide
Baking
The food trade: stat-boosting meals, banquet food for raids, and the snacks that keep the guild fed on long nights.
Recipes and trivials below follow the EQL wiki's Skill Baking page as of September 2026. EQL can tune trivials with patches, so verify against the linked references before a big combine session.
1) Baking Basics Open trade
Baking turns meats, fish, dough, and merchant goods into food — and some of that food gives temporary stat boosts (STR, DEX, STA, AGI, INT, CHA, even resists). Anyone can learn it, and a baker who keeps the guild bank stocked with stat food is a hero on raid night.
The governing stat
Intelligence or Wisdom, whichever is higher, governs your chance to gain a skill point on a combine — same as Tailoring and Brewing. Buff the higher one before a skilling session.
What you'll make first
- Clump of Dough — flour + milk + egg in a mixing bowl. The base of everything baked.
- Stat steaks and chops — meat + jug of sauces + spices. STR, STA, DEX food for every melee.
- Fish fillets — the fishing crossover recipe (see the Fishing guide).
2) Cookware & Containers Tools
Baking has more cookware than any other trade. Ovens are found in any starting city, usually near the baking merchants. Spits work just like portable ovens (and double as storage in a pinch). Everything below is returned on both success and failure, so buy once and keep it:
- Mixing Bowls — for cold prep; buy from merchants (potters can also make them).
- Muffin Tins, Cookie Cutters, Pie Tins, Cake Rounds, Skewers, Pots, Smokers — made with pottery or blacksmithing.
- Filleting Knives, Bread Tins, Non-Stick Frying Pans, Dairy Spoons — blacksmith-made; befriend a smith or buy them.
One trap: the Loaf of Bread recipe uses a Bread Tin and carries a random chance of a burnt loaf that destroys the tin. Don't risk your only tin on a skilling run.
3) Getting Started: Skill 1–46 Beginner
The EQL wiki's quick leveling guide kicks in at trivial 46 — for the early climb, use these cheap recipes:
| Skill range | Item | Trivial | Ingredients | Combine in |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1–17 | Clump of Dough | 17 | Cup of Flour + Bottle of Milk + Egg | Mixing Bowl |
| 17–21 | Edible Goo | 21 | Rat Ears + Fire Beetle Eye | Spit / Oven |
| 21–36 | Dwarf Chops (STR +2, STA +2) | 36 | Dwarf Meat + Spices + Garnish | Spit / Oven |
| 36–41 | Bear Steaks (STR +1) | 41 | Bear Meat + Jug of Sauces + Spices | Spit / Oven |
Clumps of Dough are never wasted — they feed the pie and cake recipes further up the ladder. Bank extras.
4) The Leveling Path: 46–242 The climb
The EQL wiki's quick leveling guide, exactly as listed — each recipe carries you to the next trivial:
| Skill range | Item | Trivial | Ingredients | Combine in |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 46–82 | Batwing Crunchies | 46 | Bat Wing + Frosting | Spit / Oven |
| 82–135 | Fish Fillets | 82 | Jug of Sauces + Fresh Fish | Spit / Oven |
| 135–142 | Fish Rolls | 135 | Bat Wing + Fresh Fish | Spit / Oven |
| 142–157 | Batwing Pie | 142 | Bat Wing + Clump of Dough + Spices + Pie Tin (returned) | Spit / Oven |
| 157–162 | Wedding Cake | 157 | White Chocolate + Frosting + Clump of Dough + Cake Round (returned) | Spit / Oven |
| 162–242 | Birthday Cake | 162 | Winter Chocolate + Frosting + Clump of Dough + Cake Round (returned) | Spit / Oven |
| 242 | Dragon Steak | 242 | Dragon Meat + Jug of Sauces + Spices | Spit / Oven |
Notes on the hard stretches
- 82–135 is a long grind on Fish Fillets — coordinate with the guild's fishers, or substitute named fillet recipes (pike, salmon, trout, carp, chub fillets are all trivial 82 too).
- Bat Wings and Fresh Fish are the bottleneck ingredients for most of this path — farm bats and fish in bulk before you sit down.
- 162–242 is the longest stretch on Birthday Cakes. It's merchant-bought ingredients (winter chocolate, frosting, flour, milk), so it's purely a platinum question, not a farming one.
5) Stat Food Worth Cooking Guild supplies
This is what the guild actually wants from you. Stat food stacks up on long sessions and raids — cook to order for members by class:
| Food | Trivial | Stats | Who wants it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dwarf Chops | 36 | STR +2, STA +2 | Melee, tanks |
| Bear Steaks | 41 | STR +1 | Melee |
| Gnome Kabobs | 56 | DEX +2, INT +2 | Monks, casters |
| Beer Braised Bear | 68 | STR +2, INT −1 | Warriors, knights |
| Beer Braised Mammoth | 68 | STR +3, INT −1 | Big melee DPS |
| Beer Braised Wolf | 68 | STA +2, INT −1 | Tanks |
| Beer Braised Lion | 68 | AGI +2, INT −1 | Rangers, bards |
| Beer Braised Rat | 68 | DEX +2, INT −1 | Monks, rogues |
| Elven Veal | 115 | DEX +1, WIS +1, INT +1, AGI +1 | Hybrids, priests |
| Chocolate Marr Cherries | 126 | CHA +3 | Bards, enchanters |
| Caynar Nut Stuffed Trout | 128 | STA +2, SV Disease +2 | Everyone raiding |
The Beer Braised line all needs Short Beer — a brewing recipe (trivial 31). If no brewer is around, Short Beer is cheap to make yourself; see the Brewing guide.
6) The Money Baking Economy
Baking pays because food is a consumable — customers always come back:
- Stat food by the stack — the Beer Braised line, Dwarf Chops, Gnome Kabobs. Raiders buy these in bulk before a raid schedule.
- Fish fillets — the skilling recipe is also a product; hearty fish meals move steadily.
- Cakes and pies — Birthday and Wedding Cakes have a novelty market (weddings, guild events). Margins depend on chocolate prices.
- Banquet-sized meals — Fish Rolls, Mammoth Steaks (yield 5!), Gator Rolls. Big yields per combine mean better margins per meat.
- Ingredient flipping — foraged berries, fruits, and eggs feed other bakers' pies. Sell raw when you're too lazy to cook.
Watch the foraged fruit/berry market — pies are only profitable when you forage the fruit yourself or buy it cheap.
7) How Baking Feeds Other Trades Trade web
Baking touches nearly every other trade — mostly as a buyer:
- Fishing → Baking: the big one. Fish fillets and the whole 82–135 skilling stretch run on fished fish. See the Fishing guide.
- Brewing → Baking: Short Beer feeds every Beer Braised stat food. See the Brewing guide.
- Pottery → Baking: pie tins, cake rounds, muffin tins, skewers, pots, smokers, mixing bowls.
- Blacksmithing → Baking: filleting knives, bread tins, non-stick frying pans, dairy spoons.
- Foraging → Baking: berries, fruits, eggs, vegetables, and greens for salads and stews.
- Baking → everyone: stat food out to every member. The guild's bakers are the reason the raid force hits harder.
8) Vendors & Supplies Supplies
Baking merchants (usually next to the ovens in starting cities) sell the processed basics. Stock up in one trip:
- Flour, milk, eggs — Clump of Dough components.
- Vinegar, spices, garnish, jug of sauces, frosting, white/winter chocolate — the recipe flavorings.
- Spits and mixing bowls — your portable kit. Spits double as ovens and extra storage.
Everything else comes from hunting (meats, bat wings, eggs), fishing (fresh fish), or foraging (berries, fruit, vegetables). The skilling path is mostly merchant ingredients from 157 up — that's why it costs platinum, not time.
